Biography

Coleen Walsh has crossed all frontiers in dance from the concert to the commercial world, stage to screen and from competition and convention to academia. In New York City she established herself as a Master Teacher, Choreographer, Dancer, and Instructor. She has traveled extensively throughout the USA, Canada, Europe, Brazil and Japan for choreography and guest residencies. Her numerous credits include: Faculty member at Steps on Broadway and Dance Space in NYC; Professor and Guest Artist/Choreographer to several Major Dance Universities; Choreographer for several College and NBA Dance Teams (The New York KNICKS City Dancers, Washington WIZARDS, and the New Jersey NETS); Dancer/Choreographer for companies, industrials, commercials (K-mart, Pringles, NYOne, etc), music videos (MTV, BET) and at New York’s Off Broadway scene and top night clubs; Artistic Director of her own dance company CWDANZ; and Master Teacher and Adjudicator with several conventions and competitions.

Originally from Denver, Colorado, Coleen performed as soloist with the Denver Contemporary Dance Theater and with the second company of the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance School. In 2001, she received her MFA in Choreography from the University of Iowa and has been Assistant Professor and Guest Artist/ Choreographer at several Colleges and Universities including Bucknell, DeSales, Longwood, Lafayette, UNLV, and the University of Iowa. Her choreography has been presented and featured in The Gala performance of The ACDFA and was chosen to represent Rob Marshall at the Élan Awards in New York. She has been featured in and written for Dance Teacher and Dance Spirit magazines.

Currently, Coleen is teaching at CSU as well as teaching master classes, workshops, and lecturing to teachers on the basics of choreography, anatomy and kinesiology, class structure and dance pedagogy.  She is an active board member of the Colorado Dance Alliance.  She has started her own company, Around the World Adventures, a full service travel company for niche tours that take you around the world doing active adventures like dance, cooking, golf and other activities/sports. Dance Around the World is being scheduled now, where she will travel to 4 different continents and learn 10 different types of ethnic dance.
